Upcycling is Where it's at!

Stop throwing so much stuff away. First, you're killing the environment by filling up landfills. Second, you're wasting money on things you could reuse or turn into treasures.

I've discovered surprising ways to give old stuff new life. For example, empty bread wrappers and chip bags make excellent substitutes for Ziplock bags. You already paid for them and you can use them over and over. They also hold more than even the largest Ziplock bags. Bonus.

I've recently fallen down the rabbit hole of upcycling and DIY videos on YouTube, so I've started trying my own. You can use everyday "trash" and turn it into high-end decor dupes. Yes, you really can. The video to the right shows my first big attempt. I turned an empty peanut jar into a "gold foil" vase.

It's not the most gorgeous thing in the world, but I'm learning and I think I can make something even nicer in the future. I'm going to make "Don't Throw That Away! Make This!" a regular feature here, so be sure to bookmark and check back! You never know what I'll do next.

Turn Old Electronics Into New Stuff

You might be surprised at how many ways you can repurpose an old piece of hardware, even if it’s several years old and has become too slow to fulfill its original function properly anymore. Check out this great article from Wired on how to do just that: READ MORE

Just a little glittery gold tulle from Dollar Tree wrapped around the top finished it off nicely. You could do jute cord, ribbon, or whatever turns you on.

I did notice that the top needed to be finished off because it still looked like, well, a peanut jar, so I did this...
